Only a week after the Moto-GP, Wolfgang Stropek/IGFC organised a race for historic bikes at the Red Bull Circuit. Practice and Qualifying were held on Saturday with glorious summer weather. On Sunday, the raceday of course, the weather changed and all the races were held either on a wet track or even in the rain.
Four LAVERDA-riders had entered, thei numbers in brackets: Hansi Mayer with his 750 SF (36), Erich Sanders with his Sulzbacher LAVERDA 1200 SC (41), Horst Scheuer with the classic 1200 and the Haider/Prünner 1200 (146) and our Bavarian Friend Willi Werndl with his LAVERDA 1000 racebike (21).
The times during practice and qualifying were really promising: Hansi 2:02.958, Erich 2:15.411, Horst 1:57.272 and Willi 1:57.599. Erich had some minor technical problems with his 1200SC only running on two cylinders.
The sprint-race of 6 laps was held on a wet track: Hansi Mayer finished 11th in the class up to 750cc. In the class over 750ccm Erich Sanders finished 12th, Willi Werndl 9th and Horst Scheuer gained a fantastic 4th.
The main race over 9 laps was held in pouring rain: Erich und Willi forewent the start, Hansi und Horst however were each rewarded with 5th place. Our heartfelt congratulations!
Many thanks to all who visited us in pit 6! A special thanks to Erich Mülleggger for his fantastic action shots!
